Matcha-Colada Smoothie

It’s no surprise that I am a green smoothie enthusiast, like many vegans. They are the perfect breakfast for when you have a lot of time and want to sip it slowly on a weekend, or when you’re in a rush and need to take one on the go. Rather than my classic almond butter, banana and spinach smoothie, I have been craving fruitier green smoothies this summer. So behold the perfect blend between a pina colada, matcha tea and smoothie: a match colada. I tried many ways of adding matcha into my smoothies as it’s quite a process to make matcha tea itself, however it is hard to pass up its many great benefits (not to mention the caffeine kick). This smoothie is great for when you need an all in one breakfast of greens, fruit, protein and caffeine, that’s also delicious!

I found this to be the best combination of pineapple, banana and coconut. Refreshing, fruity and tropical with a hint of earthiness. Like all my green smoothies this smoothie has been tested by my loyal vegan proofers. The process always starts with “I’m not drinking that, it’s green” or “why are you putting vegetables in there?” It always ends with a “hey, that doesn’t even taste like green stuff” or “I guess that’s not so bad for vegetable juice”.

Matcha:

Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder, which is incredibly good for you. One cup of matcha is equivalent to drinking 10 cups of green tea! Furthermore, it’s a source of caffeine which simultaneously calms and relaxes the mind (not to mention it has 93x the amount of anti-oxidants as blueberries)! Matcha can be found at any health food, tea or bulk store. It can be rather expensive but a small package goes a long way. Learn More!
